The management of Galaxy Television last week briefed its stakeholders, especially the media and advertising agencies on its richness of its content, and its content development plans for New Year.

The General Manager of the television station, Mr Kola Akintoba, who provided the station’s narrative, explained how the station started in 1994, and spreading to have three other stations in the South West and effectively covering the South West states and Edo. He said the station is also strong on cable platforms such as StarTimes, Actv while plan is being perfected to be on DStv. He mentioned some of the local and foreign telenovellas and programmes transmitted on the station to include; Cruel intention, Passion, Unmask and Celebrity zone.

In a chat, Akintoba said the engagement with stakeholders was “to intimate them of the plans for the next quarter. Of course, you know that content drive the business we are in. If we have the right content and we do not let people know what we have, it would be futile. So we felt we should bring them together to share with them what we have and plans for the next quarter and new year.

“Right now, we are producing some new content. Some of the old programmes that are doing well, we are improving on them because the moment you drop a programme, another station picks it. So we felt we should develop and keep developing those doing well.  Also, not all the new contents we are developing are out, we are still working on some.

“We have a sister company called Nollywood Worldwide Entertainment, some of the new telenovellas you saw were produced by the company. We are going to location soon to shoot some other ones.”

The Galaxy boss said that besides the content provided by its sister company, its other stations also produce contents that align with the specific needs of viewers around them. “We are producing content that relates directly to the viewers.”

He also said that though it is tough and challenging, there are plans to spread and expand its coverage beyond the South west states and Edo.

“It is what we are looking at and working on. We would continue to grow from strength to strength, which is our desire.”

On why it ventured into producing telenovellas, he said “If you look at the background of Galaxy Television, it is owned by one of Nigeria’s first producers, Chief Steve Ojo, who has a background of production and has been in business for over four decades, so he understands the business and what drives it.
