NOLLYWOOD actor cum politician, Desmond Elliot, in fulfillment of his electoral promises, has instituted a skills acquisition programme for 150 physically challenged in his Surulere 01 constituency in Lagos. The event was held to mark the United Nations International Day of Persons with Disabilities.

Beneficiaries of the programme were treated to a skills workshop by resource persons in bead making, millinery, tie and dye (Adire) making, and arts & crafts creation. They were also handed a cash donation of N5,000 each from Minimie Noodles to start a new lease of life.

According to the lawmaker, the programme is aimed at taking the physically challenged away from the streets and making them self-dependent. “I promised you during my campaigns that I will not be far from you and that I will start my empowerment with you. This is the beginning, it may be little but you can do a lot with it.”

Vice Chancellor of the National Open University , Prof. Vincent Ado Tenebe, promised all graduands automatic admission to acquire more knowledge on what they learnt and gave them one bag of rice each.
