In furtherance of its commitment in the implementation of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the United Nations in collaboration with Oyo State Government and the UN Association of Nigeria (UNAN), has launched the Yoruba Language translation of the complete 17 Goals and 169 Targets of the SDGs.

Director of the United Nations Information Centre (UNIC) Lagos, Mr. Ronald Kayanja, acknowledged the importance of Yoruba language, saying it is estimated that more than 40 million people speak the language in Nigeria, the Republic of Benin and Togo.

It is the third most widely spoken indigenous language in Africa.

While launching the version, Oba Lekan Balogun expressed delight about the translation, as it would enhance the people’s understanding and participation. He urged the audience who were mainly grassroots to read and play the roles expected of them as good citizens.
