MEMBER of the managing board of Abia state SURE-P Chief Chijioke Nwakodo who is also the Chief Economic Adviser to governor Theodore Orji has asserted that while a number of states had been sanctioned by the Federal Government for misapplication of their SURE-P Funds and consequently denied of Funds, Abia state has never been so treated but rather , severally commended for judiciously applying and expending hers.
Nwakodo who stated this when he lead members of the state SURE-P Board on a visit to Orji, said that not less than 70 projects have so far been executed by the state SURE-P Board in the three senatorial zones of the state.
He listed these projects to include those on education, health, youth/women development and rural road development and maintenance adding that apart from building, furnishing and equipping three new 100-bed hospitals at Okeikpe in Ukwa West, Arochukwu and Amachara, his Agency also constructed and equipped 28 room blocks at Government College, Umuahia, Ovim High School, Isuikwuato and Girls High school, Amachara among others.
Other projects Nwakodo listed were executed by the state SURE-P were the building and rebuilding of cottage hospitals, procurement of 40 ( no) 18-seater buses and 25 ( no ) 30-seater buses for youth empowerment programme of the government as well as training women and youths in skills acquisition and thereafter empowering them with necessary start-off equipment/tools
According to him, state SURE-P funded the construction of the recently commissioned state E-library, training of over 2,000 youths in skills including the 600 youths that are currently undergoing training at the skills acquisition centre whom he said would be provided with start-off equipment on graduation.
Elated by the report, Governor Orji commended them for embarking on key and critical projects that touch the lives of the people noting that they were able to achieve these when some states were being scolded and sanctioned for misapplying their funds saying “ in the case of Abia State, where the Funds went to , are visible and verifiable projects”.
The governor acknowledged the Board’s prayers for his success in his Abia Central senatorial bid in the coming election on PDP platform and assured that if elected, he will not only work for Abia Central or Abia state but for the entire South East.
