THE Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Uvwie Local Council of Delta State has declared its support for the newly constituted state Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board.
A group, Indigenous Muslims in Delta State, had called for the sack of the board over the inclusion of Alhaji Suleiman Jauro, the Seriki of Arewa Community in Uvwie Local Council.
Speaking with reporters yesterday in Effurun, the PDP chairman in the council, Prince Kelly Otuedor, argued that religion was not a political party, maintaining that Jauro remained a leader of PDP Ward 8 in the council who worked tirelessly for the success of the party in the last general elections and as such deserved the appointment.
Otuedor lauded Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for his wisdom in appointing a “committed member of the PDP from the grassroots into the board unlike in the past where unknown people are imposed on us as representatives in appointments into boards.”
He advised Muslims in the area to work with Jauro and contribute to the growth of the party in the state.
“They should wait for turn. If appointments do not get to them now, it will get to them some other time. So they should stop using religious sentiments to cause confusion in the party. For religion is not of political party,” Otuedor stated.
