5 men bag N200,000 bail each for alleged theft of N1.8m cable

A Bwari Chief Magistrates’ Court in Abuja on Friday admitted five persons, Peter Onuobi, Lucky Shuaibu, Adams Barnabas, Sanusi Usman and Daniel Ashoti, to bail for alleged stealing.

In her ruling after their arraignment, Chief Magistrate Akanni Olaide, granted bail to them in the sum of N200,000 each with sureties in like sum.

Olaide also ordered that the sureties must be civil servants and adjourned the case till Feb. 9, for hearing.

The accused persons were arraigned on a two-count charge of criminal conspiracy and theft of an electric cable belonging to Alma Investment Company limited in Kogo-Bwari, valued at N1.8 million.

They pleaded not guilty.

The Prosecutor, Mrs A. Adewunmi- Aliko, Senior State Counsel, told the court that the offence was committed on Nov. 20, 2015.

Adewunmi- Aliko said that they conspired and stole the item belonging to the company and converted the monies for their personal use.

“They also took away a generator set, valued at N150,000 which they sold for N35,000 and two gas cylinders valued at N50,000 which they also sold for N5,000 each.

She noted that the offences contravened Sections 96 and 287 of the Penal Code.
