The same way he abandoned the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC), former Governor of Old Anambra State, Dr Jim Ifeanyichukwu Nwobodo, yesterday abandoned the Anglican Church when he decided to unite in the covenant of marriage with his wife, Patricia, at the Catholic Church, Independence Layout, Enugu.
Nwobodo had been an old member of the Anglican Church and, in fact, performed the first botched wedding with his first wife, Mukosoro at the Anglican Church. He contributed immensely to the building of St. Mathew’s Anglican Church, Awkunanaw- Amechi and many others in the area.
His first marriage had produced four children when he broke off with his first wife and re-married with Patricia. Sources said his decision to covenant his second marriage in the Catholic Church might not be unconnected with the disagreement over the burial site for his first son, Ifeanyi, last year.
Nwobodo was alleged to have disowned the first marriage and its products, a decision that did not go down well with the leadership of the church, as well as alleged refusal of the church to perform the second wedding.
But the former governor, who on Friday left PDP for APC, on Saturday, once again united in the covenant of marriage with his wife Patricia in a wedding performed by the Catholic Bishop of Enugu Diocese, Most Rev. Dr. Calistus Onaga. Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State and his wife, Monica sponsored the couple in the marriage in fulfillment of requirements demanded by the Catholic Church.
