GOVERNOR Aminu Waziri Tambuwal of Sokoto State Thursday visited Hajiya Fatima Isa, the last patient in hospital from Sokoto in the September 2015 hajj stampede in Saudi Arabia.

A statement signed by Tambuwal’s spokesman, Malam Imam Imam, said Hajiya Isa, also known as Dammu, who had been on admission at the East Jeddah hospital in Saudi Arabia since the tragedy, is from Sokoto South Local Council of the state.

She survived the incidence, which claimed over 2,000 pilgrims from different countries worldwide. 274 Nigerians died in the tragedy, with Sokoto recording the death of 114 pilgrims.

While thanking God for her recovery from the injuries she sustained during the stampede, Tambuwal gave her a donation of N500,000, which his administration earlier announced to all the families of the victims of the stampede.

According to doctors, she suffered from loss of memory and it took a while before Nigerian officials identified her among the victims at the hospital.
At her bedside, Tambuwal put a call through to her family members, which made the victim burst into tears on hearing their voices.
