The Anambra Central senatorial district re-run election has thickened, yesterday, following the declaration by the women’s leader of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Sharon Olive Ikeazor, to contest for the primary election.

She will slug it out with Senator Uche Ekwunife, who recently defected to the party from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), after an Appeal Court in Enugu nullified her victory at the polls and called for a re-run late last year.

Submitting her intent form to the party state executive at the secretariat in Awka, Ikeazor said that her experience in partisan politics would be brought to bear in the senate if elected.

She vowed to represent the interest of the party with pride and great honour, promising to make laws and policies that will be in line with the belief and principles of President Mohammadu Buhari in his fight against corruption.

According to her, “I was the National Woman Leader of the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) from 2011, till the merger in 2013 that produced the APC. I emerged as the pioneer National Woman Leader in the interim, a position I held till 2014 and was appointed into the Board of Trustees of the party (BOT).”

Being a foundation member of our great party, I believe that the APC will give all necessary support in my quest for the senatorial seat. I assure that I will represent the party in the 8th senate with pride and great honour, and uphold the integrity which our party stands for.”
She added that she has the interest to serve the people, as it was a great opportunity, urging all women in the zone to give their full support.

The state party chairman, Emeka Ibe, expressed happiness that Ikeazor declared interest to join the race, assuring that that all aspirants will be given a level playing ground.

He said, “Our interest is to produce a senator that will represent APC at the National Assembly, but we will ensure that due process is followed in electing our candidate. If you cling the party’s ticket, ensure that you help the President to deliver this country from the bondage of corruption.
“We know that this country was in a mess before now. Make sure you do or say what is in line with the principles of the President, which is fighting corruption.”
