The word leprosy is taken from the Hebrew word “Saraath,” while in Greek, it is called “Lepra.” The word “Seraath” means to smite or strike. In the Old Testament, it was believed that any person with leprosy ws smitten by God or caused by the sin he committed. Lev. 13:1-45. Leprosy is literally a disease caused by a bacteria called mycobacterium leprae. It primarily affects the nerves of the extremities, the skin, the lining of the nose and the upper respiratory tract. It is contagious and is transmitted through contact with the victim.
Leprosy is a condition that not only affects the skin, but also the nerves. A leper cannot feel pain because the nerves in that region where he is affected are completely dead. If the leper handles a hot object, he will not feel burning sensation. He has totally lost his sensitivity in that region. Some people are like that in life. When a problem has been with them for long, they become used to it. They regard the problem as part of them and so, are no longer sensitive to it.
A brother came to meet me to pray for his wife suffering from witchcraft oppression. According to him, the particular spot the wife was operated on, any time she closes her eyes to sleep, she will be pressed down and eventually the stitches are undone. He said he had no problem, that every day since his primary school days, he had been suffering from witchcraft oppression. That was about 37 years. According to him, he is used to the pressing, as it has become a part of him. I prayed for him and his wife, and immediately the experience ceased.
In Matt. 8:1-4, Jesus was coming down from the mountain, where He went to pray, and there came this leper screaming for Jesus to heal him. Naturally, Jesus was not supposed to touch him according to the Jewish law, but as He did, the leprosy immediately disappeared. Today, anything that marred or defaced your life is leaving in Jesus name. One of the detriments of leprosy is that it defaces the natural surface of the skin. Figuratively, leprosy is anything that makes a man ugly, such as strange sickness, poverty, oppression, etc. Anything that affects the original state for worse can be likened to leprosy.
Spiritually, a leper is someone that is separated from God because of sin. Any time a man commits sin wilfully, such a person becomes a leper spiritually. Jesus has reconciled us back to God. Rom. 5:10, Habakkuk 1:13
In Mark 1:42, as Jesus spoke, leprosy departed from the man. The one that was insensitive to things before became sensitive. The hardened skin became soft. Any problem that has hardened your heart in the name of Jesus, receive deliverance now! Some people, because of constant offences, suffer when they help other people. They have hardened their heart from helping or assisting people.
The skin of a leper is so damaged that he cannot hold anything. If he tries to use his hand to hold something, it will slip off. A leper finds it difficult retaining or handling things with his hand. There are persons like the leper. They see things but any time they try to handle it, they slip out of their hands. Some persons cannot retain jobs, they keep on losing opportunities or jobs. Others can be the loss of pregnancy through miscarriages, etc.
A sister came to our meeting one day, and her case was very pathetic. She had lost 14 pregnancies through miscarriages. Anytime she was pregnant, in her dream, a hand either strikes her on the stomach or shows her red objects. Immediately she wakes up, she has miscarriage. Afte running her through deliverance, the experiences ended. Today, she is a mother of three children. Hallelujah.
A leper is also ostracised from the society, completely shut away from others.
They have a colony separate from others. As a result of the nature of sickness, they suffer rejection. People don’t want to go closer to them for fear of being infected. Metaphorically, a leper is a person who suffers rejection. As a reader of this message, if you have ever suffered from rejection, congratulations. God is taking you to another level. Your testimony is about to be unveiled in Jesus name.
