Sharing the tents sharing among 45,000 IDPs in Damaturu, Chairman of Relocation and Resettlement Committee, Mohammed Lamin, said that about 1,000 mattresses were also distributed for the comfort of the displaced persons.
His words: “These household family tents and mattresses, would improve the living conditions of displaced persons in camps,” said Lamin, adding that the tents will provide privacy for households compared to living in dormitories and open space.
The idea of resettling IDPs, according to him, was sequel to the request made by them regarding complaints on their privacies in the three camps.
He said that 30 dormitories were provided by the state government to accommodate and resettle the IDPs in their communities in Gujba, Geidam and Gulani council areas of the state.
On the return of IDPs to their communities, Lamin however, said: “The displaced persons in camp cannot return, unless the reclaimed communities are secured by the military and other security agencies as assured by the Minister of Interior, Maj-Gen. Abdulrahaman Dambazau (rtd) during his visit to this camp last week.”
