They gave the charge at a roundtable on university-industry linkages organised by the National Universities Commission (NUC) in Abuja.
The Chief Executive Officer of Nigerian Economic Summit Group (NESG), Mr. Laoye Jaiyeola, noted that due to scarce resources, knowledge gap and quest for innovations, there was need for synergy between the university community and industry.
According to him, such collaboration is also needed to eradicate social inequality and poverty in the land.
‘’Nigeria does not have enough resources. If the universities have what they require, they won’t need anybody. The presence of division of labour and specialisation also makes it impossible for us to achieve optimal potential without collaboration,” he stated.
Jaiyeola regretted the poor funding of research and education in the country.
The Executive Secretary of NUC, Prof. Abubakar Rasheed, said the commission was aware of the advantages of effective industry collaboration.
