Saunders puts £70,000 on Tyson Fury to beat Wilder in heavyweight bout
Billy Joe Saunders is backing fellow British boxer, Tyson Fury, to beat Deontay Wilder in Saturday night’s heavyweight bout.
Saunders, a British professional boxer, held the WBO middleweight title from 2015 to 2018, and previously the European, British, and Commonwealth middleweight titles between 2012 and 2015.
Fury is seen as a slight underdog by bookmakers as he attempts to dethrone the WBC champion in Los Angeles.
But Saunders is clearly confident that his pal can come out on top as he has staked £70,000 on the result.
Yesterday morning, Saunders posted a video to Instagram showing himself at a Ladbrokes betting shop.
Saunders was seen placing a £20,000 punt on Fury to win at odds of 11-8, having already staked £50,000 on another slip.
In the video, as Saunders hands over a betting slip to the cashier he can be heard saying: ‘Tyson Fury ready to rock and roll. If you win, Tyson, we’re going to give this man a good drink.’
Saunders captioned the video with the message: ‘Let’s go champ’.
If Fury does defeat his American opponent, Saunders will be set to receive £166,250 from his bets, giving him a profit of more than £96,000.
