Zuriel, world’s youngest filmmaker feature in Namibian, South African newspapers

Zuriel Oduwole

Zuriel-OduwoleON the move, 13-year-old Zuriel Oduwole has spent the last 20 months doing two simple things – making the case for girls’ education in Africa and telling Africa’s positive stories through film making. Her exploits were this week featured in The Namibia newspaper and African Independent, based in South Africa.

In the African Independent, she is described as Africa’s youngest diplomat: “She’s 13 years old but Zuriel Oduwole has the experience of a seasoned diplomat. She has addressed more than 23,000 children in nine countries about the need to get an education, and interviewed 14 heads of state, including the presidents of Tanzania, Liberia, Kenya, Malawi, South Sudan, Nigeria and Cape Verde.

The Namibia, which titled its article as ‘Zuriel Oduwole: The world’s youngest filmmaker,’ wrote:
“When Zuriel Oduwole is not meeting Kenya’s First Lady, being invited to the White House or directing four documentaries focusing on African issues, she’s tackling struggles which concern the youth. At 13 years old, Zuriel has a profile longer than what most people achieve in an entire lifetime.

“Achieving incredible feats such as being the youngest person to feature in Forbes magazine for her documentary film titled ‘The 1963 OAU Formation’ and being listed in 2014 as Business Insider’s ‘World’s Most Powerful Person At Every Age’, the young Nigerian director is aiming to change the world through activism and promotion of education globally.”
