Life As I See It… A New Beginning For Julius Agwu

Julius-AgwuFor hours, showbiz reporters waited patiently for the arrival of comedian Julius Agwu, who was to address a world press conference to herald his upcoming show, Life As I See It… The Rebirth. At a point, the session was adjusted to include a launch for newsmen, who had spent hours at the Victoria Crown Plaza Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos, for the briefing.

At last, the comedian, who flew in from Port Harcourt, made his way into the room. Of course, he apologised for his late arrival. And being the man that he is, his apology melted many hearts.

“I’m sorry for keeping you all waiting; I just came in from Port Harcourt this afternoon. My father in the Lord had a programme in our church and I felt I should be part of it. I’ve passed through a lot; that I’m still sitting here tell me that God exist. It’s still work in progress, but today is a new beginning for me,” he said.

The essence of he show, which is billed for February 7, 2015, at the Eko Convention Centre, Eko Hotel & Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos, according to the Rivers State native, is to show the world what God is doing in his life.

“I want to do this event to tell the story of God’s glory in my life. Though my production company, Reel Laif is behind the concert, it will be staged under my foundation, Julius Agwu Foundation, which I’ve set aside as a platform to reach out to the needy and less privileged in the society.”

To be hosted by America’s Steve Harvey, the show will parade notable comedians such as Eddy Kardi, Seyi Brown, Buchi Senator, Dan De Humourous, Mimicko, Romeo, Oyibo Princess and others. Musicians on the bill include Elegant Stallion, Onyeka Onwenu, Yinka Ayefele, Tye Tribbett, Timi Dakolo, Banky W, Bez, Waje, Effya and other.

“Yes, we are bringing Steve Harvey; the discussion is ongoing already and we hope to seal the agreement soon. It will be an opportunity to thank God for sparing my life. Now, I’ve realised that the real life is in Christ. In everything I do, I will serve him. Yes, we are human, but I’ve decided to live in Christ,” he said.

Announcing that similar event will also be staged in Abuja on Valentine Day, Agwu, who just recovered from brain surgery in the United State, noted, “for so many years, I’ve always spent my birthday and Valentine Day with the less privileged, especially with the children of House of Gold Hospice in Surulere. But this is a second chance for me and I’m taking advantage of it to give thanks. It’s a rare privilege to have an opportunity to touch people around me; my message to you all is to trust in God.”

Meanwhile, the music comedian, as he loves to be addressed, has recorded a new track entitled Second Chance, with a video to go with it.

“I believe God has plans for me. In those days when I started Laugh 4 Christ Sake, the idea was to create a platform to honour God for the talent he has given to us. I celebrated my 40th birthday with a book, Jokes Apart… How Did I get Here, which tells the story how God blessed my life. Though a comedian, I’ve always done things to praise God.

“My two lawyers, who had health challenges, didn’t get the second chance that I’m enjoying today; both died on the spot. In my case, though the doctors had confirmed me dead, God gave me a second chance. At this event, I will tell jokes that will make people think about life,” he said.

Late last year, the Mayor of the City of Riverdale in Georgia, USA, honoured the comedian with a proclamation; the Sheriff in the chambers of the city honored him with recognition as a Deputy Sheriff.

“I now have citizenship in Riverdale, Georgia. They have already given me a piece of land to build my foundation,” he noted.
