AG Faithful Jubilate Over Apex Court Ruling

IT was all joy yesterday, for members of the Assemblies of God Church Enugu, as the news of Supreme Court’s refusal to grant an injunction praying it to stop Rev. Prof. Paul Emeka from parading himself as the General Superintendent of the Church.

Assemblies of God (AG), had been enmeshed in a protracted leadership crisis, which led to its splitting into two groups with one led by Emeka and another group led by Rev. Dr. Chidi Okoroafor.

The matter went from Enugu High Court to the Supreme Court, where both parties waited for the final determination of the case.
However, last Tuesday, the apex court rebuffed the motion by the Okoroafor-led group for an injunction restraining Emeka from parading himself as the General
Superintendent.

Emeka, who disclosed the development, while addressing journalists at the Church headquarters, described the judicial position as “victory of truth over falsehood”.

Flanked by other AG leaders, the church leader commended the Apex Court for standing on the side of truth, adding that his traducers had boasted that as soon as they get the injunction, they would come and eject him.

He said: “If they had succeeded, violent as they are, they would have come here to cause trouble. But the good thing is that the injunction they were seeking was not granted them; it was not even entertained.

“I am happy because they lied and their lies have failed, to the glory of God. We are so much interested in peace and we have demonstrated it several times.”

Emeka narrated how the matter was taken to the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria, stressing that when the PFN made its decision known, “we accepted but the other party refused.”

He added that even when CAN (Christian Association of Nigeria), gave its own directives, it was only the other side that refused, while “we accepted it for peace to reign.
“I thank God over the court’s decision yesterday. We shall continue to hold on to this mandate to His glory.

It is not good to give up easily. If you have a mandate from God and you have not received a contrary message from Him, don’t give up such mandate no matter the situation, no matter the sentiments people throw up,” he said.
