Traders at the popular automobile spare parts market have raised the alarm over plans by the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) to demolish over 400 shops in Kugbo Mechanic, Nyanya in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory.
Based on this, the Spare parts traders made up of Automobile/Technicians Motor spare parts and Mechanic Unions, have filed a legal action in court against an Abuja developer, Mass Ring Engineering, to stay action on demolition of the shops there.
The Vice Chairman of the Spare-parts Union, Mr. Patrick Chimezie, who disclosed this to The Guardian, denied ever knowing the developers, saying they allocated the village to two unions in 1999. He said the moves by AMAC to destroy Kugbo Mechanic Village after many years of allocation to them with an approved plan to develop it was unfair for them to turn around to destroy the multi-millions investments.
