
Chairman of the House of Representatives Ad hoc Committee on the review of the 1999 constitution, Yussuf Sulaimon Lasun yesterday expressed readiness of the panel to accommodate any issue that comes up while the exercise lasts.
Lasun, also the Deputy Speaker of the lower legislative chamber, spoke against the backdrop of a directive by the Speaker, Yakubu Dogara, during the inauguration of the Ad-Hoc Committee that the issue of indivisibility of Nigeria remains a no-go area for the fifty members panelists.
Lasun explained that it has become imperative to give the executive good laws that would help them to carry out the duties of good governance through the amendment of all obsolete laws in the constitution.
Lasun, who noted that the Committee was not ready to take any chances disclosed that the commissioning of seasoned legal luminaries to give the committee the needed technical assistance was a pointer to the readiness of the committee to do a thorough job it’s assignment
The Deputy Speaker maintained that there are laws and enactments of the National Assembly that have not been tested, adding that the review has provided an opportunity to ensure that all laws that needed to be reviewed are amended by the committee.
