The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Anambra State Chapter, will not join the rest of worshippers in the christendom to observe today as a special national day of special prayers for the forthcoming general elections and release of the only Dapchi Secondary School girl abducted by Boko Haram, Shuaibu Leah and other remaining Chibok girls facing similar ordeal on religious ground.

The national prayer session is coming on the heels of realisation that Leah is spending 1,732 days today in custody of the Boko Harm group for refusing forceful conversion from Christianity to Islam religion.

The state Chairman of CAN, Rev. John Ndubisi, in a chat with The Guardian in Awka, the state capital, yesterday, said the state chapter would not participate in today’s national prayer rally as it had already fixed January 29, this year, for the programme before the national body came up with today’s date for the event.

Ndubisi, a clergy in the Evangelical Church of West Africa/Tarraya Ekklesiyoyin Christi Nigeria ECWA/TELLAN Bloc, said the 29th day event would be used to make a statement on the rising tension ahead of the general elections.

He said: “We in CAN in Anambra State are aware of the Special Day of Prayer but we had already slated January 29, this year, for similar programme before the national leadership of CAN announced its programme.

“We have gone far into preparation and have informed the state government on our new date for the event.

“However, if it calls that we should identify with the programme, we will observe the January 10 event as a silent date.”
