Bothered by the plight and challenges confronting contemporary teachers in the country, Board Chairman, Trinity Foundation School, Ofada, Ogun State, Deacon Robert Tade, has urged government and school operators to make teachers’ welfare a priority.

This he said would go a long way in tackling challenges bedeviling the education sector and also help in attracting young intellectuals into the profession.
Tade who spoke to The Guardian during the school’s 10-year anniversary, themed “Celebrating A Decade of God’s Faithfulness,” stressed that the era of teachers’ reward being only in heaven has gone, calling on all concerned to ensure improved welfare packages and incentives for teachers.

He blamed neglect as being responsible for the poor functioning of teachers and their inability to effectively raise the academic, moral and social standing of students.

He added that teaching is a noble profession, and therefore should be accorded the priority it deserves.

“For more effective and efficient output, teachers should be adequately rewarded. They should be appropriately equipped to compete with their counterparts from any part of the world. If a teacher earns a salary equivalent to that of doctor, engineer, pharmacist and other professionals, they will remain faithful to their duty,” she stated.

The ceremony featured various activities including rendition by the school choir and choreography by students, including testimonies by parents and staff members.
