Kyiv Polytechnic, a Nigeria-Ukraine joint educational programme was launched last year to prepare Nigerians seeking to study in Ukraine.

According to the envoy, students would undertake preparatory classes in the polytechnic before proceeding to Ukraine to complete their programmes.

The Consul of the Embassy, Mykola Samosvatov, who also spoke on the issue, stated that more Nigerians have continued to apply for study visa to Ukraine.

He, however, observed that more than 90 per cent of applicants want to study medicine – the reason the polytechnic was established in Bayelsa to prepare students for medical and technical courses.

Samosvatov said Nigerians desire to study in Ukraine because of its liberal visa regime, qualitative academic standards as well as considerate tuition.

He added that despite the high quality education provided in various schools across Ukraine, tuition have remained at the lowest when compared to what was obtainable in other European nations.

Samosvatov emphasised that out of 1,000 people that apply for Visa annually, only about 20 per cent go for business and tourism, while the remaining 80 per cent apply for medical studies.
