Memory Verse: 1 Samuel 2:2, “There is none holy as the LORD: for there is none beside thee: neither is there any rock like our God.”
Bible Passage: Isaiah 6:1-5.
Introduction
LET us have a look at the Special One. May the Holy Spirit enlighten our understanding and teach us in the mighty name of Jesus. Men inadvertently or intentionally indulge in the worship of other things and thereby treat The Lord as just one of several gods or options. This is not only erroneous, but could be very dangerous and even fatal.
The Incomparable One
The adversaries of Israel captured the Ark of the Covenant of God. They “honoured” the Lord by placing Ark next to their god, Dagon, in Ashod. They had to keep on propping up Dagon every morning, when they found it sprawling before the Ark, until Dagon was finally dismembered and dishevelled in front of the Ark. They had to bow and give up in 1 Samuel 5:7 “…they said The Ark of the God of Israel shall not abide with us for His hand is sore upon us and upon Dagon our god”. The tragedy is that many still make a Dagon out of a pastor, spouse, money, career or ambition. This is dangerous to both the person and the object deified.
There is none as holy as He is, Ps.47:8; Oba 1:17; Ps.48:1; Ps.93:5; Is.35:8; Jer.2:3; Jer.23:9; Rev.4:1-11; Hab.2:20; Lev.23:6. Sin, therefore, is an abomination to Him, Hab.1:13. He humbles the proud, Gen.3:16-19; Is.14: 12-17; Eze.28:13-19. Matt 6:24, 1 Cor 8:4.
Enduring Merciful Wrath
The holy God is also jealous, as He will not share His glory. He will not tolerate any kind of idolatry and can punish sin to the third and fourth generation, Acts 12:21-23; Ex.20: 2-5. He is a consuming fire, Heb.12:29. His enduring mercy was replaced with wrath in sin-laden Sodom and Gomorrah, Gen.19:24. God’s wrath was also kindled, when Pharaoh attacked Israel, the apple of God’s eyes, Deut.32:10. The Red Sea that was the highway of deliverance to Israel became the waterloo of their enemies, Ex.14: 21-31. Korah, Dathan and Abiram incurred God’s wrath by flouting His commandment not to touch His anointed and to do His Prophet no harm, Num.16:1-8, 23-35.
Conclusion
On which side of God would you rather be? You will be and remain on His right side of mercy and favour. Remember that the merciful One is also the consuming fire even in the New Testament and right now. He will have mercy on us all in the mighty name of Jesus.
