Plan by President Muhammadu Buhari to probe past financial transactions of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has elicited commendation by the Conference of Nigerian Political Parties (CNPP).

The CNPP, in a statement at the weekend by its Secretary General, Chief Willy Ezugwu, said that the reforms being introduced by the Minister of State for Petroleum and Group Managing Director of the NNPC, Dr Ibe Kachikwu, has exposed the activities of the cabals who hitherto held the oil sector hostage.

According Ezugwu, “the best gift the President has brought to the table in recent times is the appointment of a non-partisan professional and technocrat, Ibe Kachikwu, as the Minsiter of State/Group Managing Director of the corporation”.

The CNPP however stated that “it is aware of moves by the cabal to blackmail the minister of state and continue business as usual”, warning that “Nigerians are ready to defend the minister in his attempt to sanitize the sector”.
