Group Urges Nigerians To Desist From Littering Environment

A group, We Are Making A Difference (MAD) has bemoaned the carefree attitude of Nigerians to issues of clean and safe environment. It therefore urged Nigerians to desist from littering the society with dirt by using authorised disposal bins.

    The group said this at the launch a sanitation campaign to keep Nigeria clean and inculcate the spirit of neatness in Nigerians.

     The initiative tagged: “Hold it till You can Bin It,” is being sponsored by the Ondo State Government and supported by organisations like Merit Nigeria, Acmebound Nigeria, Minds and Moments.    

    According to the National Coordinator of the group, Tony Joy, members of the group are tired of seeing dirt around the streets and hoped that with the ongoing campaign, by 2020, Nigeria would be one of the cleanest nations in the world.

   He further said that the campaign was first launched on February 17, 2015 at a dump gully along Ijoka Road, Akure with youths drawn from different parts of the city gathered to campaign for a cleaner city and celebrate the founder of We are making A Difference birthday. 

   At Ijoka, the volunteers with gloves in hands, cutlasses, rakes and other tools worked enthusiastically to take off the mass of dirt and

refuse from the gully upward to the waiting incinerator of Ondo State Waste Management Authority (OSWMA) heavy truck for safer disposal.

  Residents, who spoke with The Guardian expressed profound appreciation towards the gesture and promised to keep Nigeria clean.
