Two men, Aina Sina and Okechukwu Godwin, who allegedly impersonated microfinance bank operators and stole N3 million from one Glory Baye, were on Monday arraigned in Lagos.

Aina, 39 and Godwin, 39, whose addresses were not given, are facing three-count charge of conspiracy, stealing and fraud before an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.

The duo, were however, granted bail in the sum of N500, 000 each with two sureties in like sum.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Ibrahim Haruna, told the court that the accused committed the offences in November, 2015.

He alleged that the accused presented themselves as staff of Set Goals Nigeria Microfinance Bank in Lagos.

“They obtained the N3 million from Baye, with a promise that they would grant her a N6 million loan,’’ he said.

Haruna said the offences contravened Section 285, 312 (3) and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The accused, however pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Counsel to the accused, Mrs Gina Lawani, urged the court to grant her clients bail on liberal terms.

The Magistrate, Mrs Abimbola Komolafe, granted the accused bail, but ordered that the sureties must show evidence of three years tax payment and deposit N100, 000 in the court’s account.

She adjourned the case to March 29 for trial.
