Governor Simon Lalong of Plateau State.

Governor of Plateau State, Simon Lalong, has charged civil servants in the state to up revenue generation to enable him maintain prompt payment of salaries, pension and other wages.

Lalong said this at a dinner organised by the state chapter of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Jos, weekend, to honour its former chairman, Jibrin Bancir, who he recently appointed special adviser on labour matters.

“I shall do more. Before the elections, I had told my wife to pray for me to be elected again, because I do not want civil servants to experience the bad old days of non-payment of salaries. To me, payment of salaries is an achievement,” he stressed.

The governor told Plateau workers that the era of federal government doling out bail-out funds to state governments to pay salaries and pension were over. Lalong, however, said his administration would prioritise payment of salaries, pension and other welfare packages of civil servants.According to him, civil servants in the state are among the strongest stakeholders who ensured his return as governor.
