The police have warned unauthorised persons to stay away from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) office in Port Harcourt as the electoral body resumes collation of the suspended Rivers State governorship election results.

Meanwhile, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and the African Action Congress (AAC) have bickered over resumption of the collation of the results today.

Following series of protests and threats by some political actors to disrupt the resumption of the collation exercise, the Rivers State Police Command said there would be massive deployment of its personnel to ensure smooth commencement and conclusion of the collation process, which was abruptly halted on March 10, 2019 due to military and political thugs’ interference.

Police spokesperson, Nnamdi Omoni, said to prevent hoodlums and unauthorised persons from accessing INEC office located along the busy Port Harcourt /Aba Expressway, the police have decided to cordon off the stretch of Waterlines to GRA junctions beginning from today.

Meanwhile, while the PDP’s Publicity Secretary in the state, Mr. Darlington Orji, urged INEC to ensure it adheres to its scheduled timeline to conclude the 2019 elections, the AAC collation agent for Obio-Akpor, Dr. Lawrence Chukwu, said the party would not accept the results of the 17 local councils already collated by INEC.

“It is very regrettable for INEC to walk down to Rivers State and tell us they have already collated results for 17 local councils and that they are awaiting six more. That is false because we have challenged them and we are also challenging them,” he said.
