Eko Disco blames power outages on energy shortage

APPARENTLY not satisfied with the current level of electricity supply to its network, the Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC), has blamed the situation on low energy allocation from the national grid.

   The company, in a statement recently, noted that the company would continue to invest massively to upgrade its facility in other to meet its electricity supply mandate.

  Already, the company has commenced construction works on an off-grid bulk power source through embedded generation, which it said was impressively progressing.

   EKEDC, covering the entire southern flank of Lagos State and a small part of Ogun State issued the statement to update customers on the current power situation and appreciated their support in the process of laying a new foundation for a future of effective and sustainable power supply about one and a half year ago after privatisation. 

   “We wish to state here that we are not unmindful of the current unsatisfactory state of power supply in areas under our coverage. While we regret the strain the current power situation has brought on the lives and businesses of our customers, we wish to state here that this is not of our making and is not limited to our coverage area alone. The situation, which is being experienced across the nation is due to some technical and operational hitches at the generation and transmission side of the electricity value chain.  

   “We however wish to assure our esteemed customers that we, at EKEDC are working persistently to ensure that the allocated power is equitably distributed amongst our esteemed customers. 

   “We are also working with relevant bodies and agencies charged with generation and transmission of power to ensure the current situation is brought under control as quickly as possible so that the ultimate goal of sustainable, effective and uninterrupted supply is achieve becomes achievable. 

  “In the meantime, we are not relenting in our efforts towards the attainment of this goal as we have continued to make huge investments towards strengthening our distribution network for seamless and efficient power evacuation from the grid and subsequent delivery to our customers.
