Seychelles Envoy Accredited to Zambia and Comesa
High Commissioner Claude Morel presented his Letters of Credentials to the President of Zambia, Mr. Hakainde Hichilema, accrediting him as High Commissioner to Zambia in a ceremony at State House, Lusaka, on Thursday 4th May 2022.
President Hichilema commended Seychelles for promoting and advancing principles of Democracy and Good Governance as well as for its Human Rights ranking within the region and in the wider global context. He expressed the wish for his Government to continue collaborating in the tourism sector. “Intra-African trade and investment will bring socio-economic benefits to our countries”, he stated.
High Commissioner Morel, noting the longstanding relations between Seychelles and Zambia, outlined the various areas where the two countries can expand their scope of cooperation. In particular, the education sector, where there is currently a cohort of 53 teachers serving in various schools, whereas another 50 are in the process of being recruited.
The Secretary General of the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA), Mrs. Chilesa Kapwepwe, received the Letters from President Wavel Ramkalawan accrediting Mr Morel as Permanent Representative to the organization during a meeting at its headquarters in Lusaka on Friday 6th May 2022.
Efforts in promoting regional integration were discussed. The High Commissioner and the Secretary General undertook a review of the many sectors in which COMESA is involved in Seychelles. These include Trade and Customs, Gender and Social Affairs, Agriculture and Industry. Under the Climate Change sector, Seychelles is among four COMESA countries that will benefit from a $ 5.7 million grant provided by the Global Environment Fund (GEF) through the Capacity Building Initiative.
High Commissioner Morel was accompanied on both occasions by the Seychelles Honorary Consul General in Zambia, Mr Jimmy Butt.
