Academy to induct new fellows

A non-profit organisation, the Academy of Medicine Specialties of Nigeria has revealed plans for the induction of 135 new fellows into its fold.

A non-profit organisation, the Academy of Medicine Specialties of Nigeria has revealed plans for the induction of new fellows into its fold.

The president of the group, Prof. Oladapo Ashiru, at a press briefing held in Lagos, said that the induction would be based on merit and impact in the medical space over time.

Ashiru explained that the academy was also set to induct five eminent researchers into the academy and these persons had left footprints on the medical sector in Nigeria and globally.

He disclosed that they would be inducted at the second yearly general meeting, scientific conference, and convocation meeting to be held on Saturday in Lagos.

The president said the event will follow the keynote lecture that would be delivered by Prof. Oyewale Tomori, to educate the government and the general public on how to tackle and fight communicable, as well as non-communicable diseases in health care system.

Dignitaries expected at the event are the Minister of Health, Dr. Osagie Ehanire, who will chair the occasion, Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Senator Olorunimbe Mamora, the Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu, and Minister of State of Health, Dr. Joseph Ekumahkama, while Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu and his wife, Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu are special guests of honors.

He added that the Academy works outside of government to provide objective advice on medical care and public health.
