AGF to partner forensic auditors to tackle corruption

The Federal Government would partner Chattered Institute of Forensic and Investigative Auditor (CFIA) to fight against corruption in the country, the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami has said.

The Federal Government would partner Chattered Institute of Forensic and Investigative Auditor (CFIA) to fight against corruption in the country, the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami has said.

He maintained that the partnership was important so as to engage the services of members of the institute in deepening the fight against corruption and rooting out elements of fraud in the bureaucratic processes and administration of the country.

Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) stated this recently in Abuja when CFIA President led a team from the institute to confer on the AGF Fellowship award.

Malami said: “Indeed, CIFIA is an association that the ministry will be keen and exceptionally interested in partnering with as CIFIA is rooted in the fight against corruption; it is an institute that can help the Federal Government in tackling the menace of insurgency and it can help in rooting out elements of fraud in bureaucratic processes and administration.”

He further pledged to work towards issuing a letter of collaboration and endorsement to CIFIA as well as signing a Memorandum of Understanding with the institute on training the staff of the Ministry.

Speaking on the CFIA bill currently at the National Assembly, he expressed optimism that President Muhammadu Buhari would assent the CIFIA Bill when it get to his table as the institute’s activities were in tandem with the anti-corruption fight of the current administration.

He maintained that it is the desire of the Federal Government to see to the passage of the bill because of its immense contribution to curbing associated leakages inherent in the system.

He commended the institute for the fellowship award, saying it would boost his commitment to what CIFIA stands for as an institute.

Enape, had earlier in her remark, said CFIA was one of the world’s leading provider of anti-fraud organization offering training and education and opportunity for energetic and practical professionals to learn the basic that go beyond knowledge of accounting, auditing and finance.

She said “CIFIA strives to promote the need for transparency in advanced audit through certification, training, conferences and seminars in forensic auditing field.  We carry out specialized fraud investigation by utilizing specialized forensic audit tools and equipment.”

The CFIA President explained that Forensic Auditors are mainly professionals from accounting background, lawyers, bankers, criminologists, cyber security experts among others adding that the profession cuts across investigation, auditing and accounting; it integrates accounting, auditing and investigative skills in resolving fraud cases.

“It encompasses litigation support, witness testimony, presentation of expert document that shows fraud- that is why this ministry if very important to the institute,” she said.
