Ahmed joins EITI board

IMMEDIATE past Executive Secretary, Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI), Zainab Ahmed has been elected member of the International Board.

A statement issued by the Acting Director, Communications, NEITI, said Zainab, who is also the Minister of State, Budget and National Planning, would represent the interests of 11 English speaking African countries on the 50 members Board.

The Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (NEITI) proposed the candidature of Mrs Zainab Ahmed following her excellent service while serving NEITI as Executive Secretary and the global EITI in the last five years. This was before her appointment as Minister.

Responding to the news of the election, the Acting Executive Secretary of NEITI, Dr Orji Ogbonnaya Orji, lauded the election saying, Mrs. Ahmed is bringing a wealth of experience to the job.

He added: “The election of the Minister was an overwhelming endorsement of Member Countries of the EITI on the on-going reforms and the anti-corruption war of the President Buhari’s administration in Nigeria.
