THE President’s wife, Aisha Buhari, has urged professional and non-professional health workers in the country to ensure accountability in the distribution of resources meant for disaster and insurgency victims.

Speaking while distributing fortified milk to pregnant women and lactating mothers in Birnin-Kebbi, the Kebbi state capital, she stated that those who indulge in diversion of relief materials should be ready to face the wrath of the law when they are caught.

Represented by the wife of the Kebbi state governor, Dr. Zainab Bagudu, she said while commodities often come into the country for the needy, some of the relief materials are commonly found in the open markets indicating that, there are leaks in the health storage system.

Presenting the item to over 2000 women at the Sir Yahaya General Hospital, Birnin Kebbi, the wife of the President noted that the gesture was a contribution towards improving the nutritional status of women in order to ensure healthier children and better and stress-free delivery of pregnancies.

The representative of the wife of the President had earlier in the week visited Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camp in Makera which houses victims of the recent flood disaster in Kebbi State and distributed milk, food and clothing items those that are affected.

Over 700 people including, women and children were displaced by the flood. Dr. Bagudu, who is a Pediatrician by training, personally attended to sick children in the camp.

Mrs. Buhari had earlier unveiled her pet project named “the Aisha Buhari health initiative for women and children” only a few days ago.
