The 1971-75 Molusi College Old Students Association (MOCOSA) has flayed the dearth of infrastructure in many government-model unity schools nationwide.
It said infrastructural decadence is affecting the quality of education and the quality of students being churned out yearly in the country. The chairman, Abdulwaheed Popoola, said this during the celebration of the 50th anniversary of MOCOSA 71-75 Alumni at the school’s premise, located in Ijebu Igbo, Ogun State.
As part of the alumni’s contribution to improving the school’s infrastructural development towards making the learning environment habitable and conducive for the students, it commissioned a multi-million-naira modern borehole project, including renovating the corpers’ lodge and providing other social amenities to the school.
Popoola said the borehole project was a welcome development that promotes the growth of Molusi College.
Also, the set’s Thomas Adu, also known as the pillar of Molusi College lamented the rate at which education pursuit was fast declining in the country.
He said that the current turnaround of events in the country’s educational system shows that Nigeria has lost it in all ramifications. He cited what happened during their time, 55 years ago at the college, stating that the passion to come out with good grades was the hallmark of everyone.
According to him, there is no more passion for teaching in schools again nationwide as teachers are concerned about making extra money. He said: “In fact, what has changed is the commitment of the teachers, the government, and the parents. You see, the parents’ wish is to get their children the best education, notwithstanding whatever it takes.
B ut these days, people are taking shortcuts to everything.
