Ambode links quality public service to delivery of dividends of democracy
Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode has said that a robust and efficient public service system is key to delivering dividends of democracy to the people.
Speaking at the year 2015 Lagos State Productivity Order of Merit Awards ceremony, Ambode, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Tunji Bello, stated that the remarkable giant strides that his administration has recorded in various sectors of over the last eighteen months is largely due to the cooperation and synergy of the government of the day and the public service system.
This, to him, is why he would celebrate public servants conferred with the Lagos State Productivity Merit Order Award with all pleasure.
“Today’s occasion is another opportunity to celebrate the Lagos State Public service for its efficient and effective interpretation and implementation of government policies and programmes.
“Indeed, I am proud of Lagos State public servants for proving time and gains that they stand heads and shoulders taller than their peers, even as it is widely acknowledged as one of the top 5 public service system in Africa.”
In all, 18 public servants and one institution, Ojodu junior Grammar School was awarded. Some of the honoured were Mrs. Onalaja Oluwatomi Oluwakemi; Ekeade Oluwagbemiga Ishola; Ajanaku Babatunde Fatai; Fadahunsi Sunday Olusina.
The Governor further stated that the State Government has kept faith with its avowed commitment to upholding staff welfare and morale. According to him, the awardees should see their new status as a call to raise the bar of performance and continue to be role models to their colleagues and subordinates.
In her welcome address, the Lagos State Head of Service, Mrs. Olabowale Ademola, noted that the award is about celebrating hard work and productivity, aside highlighting the contributions of awardees and spurring them to do more.
According to Ademola, it also showed the premium government places on productivity.
