APWEN empowers 25 female engineers with digital skills
To boost the technical competence of members, the Association of Professional Women Engineers of Nigeria (APWEN), Lagos Chapter, has trained about 25 female engineers on essential AutoCAD skills to enhance their effectiveness and efficiency.
Essentially, the five-week training seeks to assist the participants in developing a strong understanding of how to use AutoCAD’s tools to create, edit, and save drawings, as well as use Maths to create computer models, such as floor plans for safe and stable projects.
Other skills that the AutoCAD trainees were exposed to include 3-D modelling, layering techniques, construction documentation, drawing set-up, plotting functions, Model space/paper space design, as well as basic troubleshooting.
Speaking at the forum, the Chairman of APWEN Lagos, Dr Atinuke Owolabi, reaffirmed the commitment of APWEN to supporting and equipping female engineers with the skills and knowledge needed to excel globally.
Owolabi said: “This programme empowered 25 female engineers, with each participant receiving a certificate of completion to recognise their dedication and hard work.
“We extend our heartfelt appreciation to the facilitators of this training programme, particularly the Managing Director of Infraserv Nigeria Limited, and his team for their invaluable contributions and transfer of lifelong knowledge to our female engineers to enable them to contribute to social and economic development of the country.”
She explained that the AutoCAD Training (Cohort 1) was a journey to master a vital tool in engineering that will enhance precision, creativity, and efficiency in design and problem-solving.
According to her, engineers’ commitment to learning and skill-building represents the drive and ambition that will shape the future of the profession, adding that it sets the pace for innovation and progress and the opportunity to strengthen their impact on engineering and society.
One of the facilitators, Bolaji Atoloye, said the training will greatly improve knowledge of the female engineers.
He urged other associations to emulate the steps taken by Lagos APWEN by improving the capacity of their members.
