The Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria (ASCSN) has passed a vote of confidence in its National President and Secretary-General, Mohammed Shehu and Joshua Apebo, respectively.
The vote of confidence was passed during the association’s Central Working Committee (CWC) meeting in Abuja, where chapter and branch chairmen across the federation, as well as chairmen of the 112 units from the federal Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), were in attendance.
The association assured that it remained focused and determined to continue to pursue the welfare of its members across the board.
While it said other welfare issues are still being pursued, the association said that since assuming office on August 12, 2024, at its fifth Quadrennial National Delegates Conference in Lagos, it has convinced the Federal Government (FG) to restore the payment of gratuity to public service employees, with effect from January 2026.
According to it, payment of gratuity was stopped since 2004 when the Pension Reforms Act was introduced, even though that law did not expressly abolish gratuity.
It said it has also convinced FG, where it agreed to pay arrears of wage awards to public service employers in the federal MDAs in April and May, pay newly recruited teachers in the 110 unity schools throughout the country, and to start settling outstanding promotion and salary arrears in the unity schools that will spread to other MDAs in due course.
It added that the Federal Government has also unveiled the N10 billion housing loan scheme designed to increase access to affordable homeownership for federal public service employees.
