ANCOPPS wants secondary schools commission

THE All Nigerian Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPPS) has called on Federal Government to establish a commission to oversee secondary education in the country.

National President of ANCOPPS which is the umbrella body for all secondary school principals in the country, Hajiya Fatima Abdurahman made the call in Abuja when she led national executives of the body on a courtesy visit to the Minister of Education, Ibrahim Shekarau.

  According to her, secondary education remains the only tier in nation’s education sector without a body regulating it as is the case for other tiers like primary education, universities, polytechnics and colleges of education.

     “We want to remind you that the Secondary Education Commission is long over due. Honourable Minister, you started the campaign for the establishment of the commission and we want you to use your office to see to its creation as secondary education has remained the only tier of education without a commission,” Abdurahman said

    The ANCOPPS president also lamented the non-representation of ANCOPPS on the Boards of National Board for Technical and Business Education (NABTEB) and Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC).

     While noting that the inclusion of ANCOPPS members on the boards would help to move the nation’s education forward, Abdurahman said principals with their wealth of experience have a lot to offer those boards when brought on board.

 “We want ANCOPPS to be on the Board of NABTEB and UBEC because members of ANCOPPS are principals of secondary and junior secondary schools and ANCOPPS presentation on those boards is very important to move the nation’s education sector.” She said

    While responding, Shekarau also lamented the non-representation of ANCOPPS on the boards of NABTEB and UBEC noting that WAEC and NECO has four and two ANCOPPS representatives on their boards respectively.

    He however gave assurance on the inclusion of ANCOPPS members on the boards of NABTEB and UBEC.

   “I see no reason why ANCOPPS would not be on the board of UBEC, ANCOPPS has four on WAEC and two members on NECO. We would make case for the inclusion of members on the board,” he said
