Experts task engineers on inventions, reading, others
NIGERIAN engineers have been challenged to make a mark in the world of science and technology while also making scientific discoveries which is capable of earning them Nobel Laureates in science and putting the country in the world map of science.
They have also been urged not to see the acquirement of their bachelor degrees in engineering as the end to reading other books and expanding the horizon of knowledge, further informing them that it is only through it that they can perceive what an ordinary eye cannot see.
These were the thoughts of the Chief Client Consultant, Artins Probity, Martins Egbe and the Inaugural Chairman of The Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Apapa branch, Engr. Tunde Zedomie, at the Induction Ceremony of the NSE Apapa branch held in Lagos.
Delivering a lecture at the event entitled: “Imagination, Science and Manifestations”, Egbe noted that with the short time man has to live on earth, efforts should be concentrated on discoveries and invention/innovations to guarantee outstanding success that is worthy of international awards.
Answering a big ‘NO’ to his question, “Is there a true limit to what man could become capable of creating into reality?”, he however pointed out that the perceived limitations which man currently faces lies in the past, present and future time differentials, which he noted, obstruct man’s imagination, science and manifestation abilities.
He said: “It would take zillions of light-years for man to scientifically unravel the mysteries of the universe. The good news is that, the world has significantly advanced because of scientific discoveries. Imaginations indicate that the world would be so different in the future. For instance, man would not need a car, plane, ship or train to transport himself. Man will be able to fly in the sky or even teleport.
“Unfortunately, Nigeria remains a consumer of scientific by-products. How many science students truly understand science? How many can apply scientific discoveries? How many Nigerians have made new scientific discoveries? How many Nigerians have received Nobel Laureate in science? Is our generation a wasted generation? is there anyone here that would put Nigeria on the map of scientific discoveries?”
