The Institute of Certified Business Consultants (ICBC) Nigeria has charged its newly inducted members with professionalism and high ethical standards.
ICBC President and country representative, Emmanuel Ayele, gave the charge during the institute’s induction ceremony, where about 91 new members were inducted into the ranks of fellow, student, graduate, associate, corporate, and full-time members.

Ayele, who noted that the institute stands for professional values, offering opportunities for study and career advancement in the field of business, admonished the new members to be active professionally and contribute their talents and great potential to the institute.

He said: “In our common aspiration to make ICBC a home for all and a top-notch institute for the development consulting experts, the governing council, in its wisdom, has lined up various programs for members’ professional development. Members are, therefore, expected to participate in all the programmes of the institute as we commence the categorisation of the quality of membership.

“This implies that in our effort to prevent dormancy and obsolescence in members’ skills and competencies, every member is required to attain a certain level of participation in the institute programs to qualify for one of the following membership quality categories of gold, diamond, platinum, silver or bronze member of ICBC.

“The main objective is to promote continuous participation and contribution from members towards the general development of the institute on one hand, and our ailing economy on the other.”

Speaking further, Ayele asserted that the new members of ICBC have been chosen because they have demonstrated excellence, leadership, and a spirit of innovation. He encouraged them to be bold and courageous and to never stop striving for excellence.

In his lecture with the theme, ‘Leveraging practical insight: How business consultants shape legacy, reputation and brand recognition’, the Director, of Entrepreneurship and Skills Development Centre (ESDC), University of Lagos (UNILAG), Prof. Sunday Adebisi said every member of the institute was to look after each entity as a consultant.  He said this could be banking, insurance, manufacturing or other sectors to nurture and survey them to remain in line with what the practice entails.

To achieve this purpose, he urged the new members to stay curious, attend conferences, seminars, and workshops, and pursue relevant certifications and credentials to become professionals in the field.

The ICBC registrar, Abiodun Obanla challenged the new members to build businesses that would last.

“We want to raise consultants that will stand the test of time, build businesses that will thrive and be eye-opening. So they need to know bits and pieces of every aspect of business for them to be great,” she said.
