The Director-General, NPC, Dr. Kashim Akor, who made this statement in Abuja at a national productivity summit, explained that states and local government councils are key stakeholders in promoting productivity consciousness amongst Nigerians.
“The essence of this national productivity summit is to build the skills and competencies as well as the attitude of the workforce for increased productivity. We believe that given the critical role productivity plays in national economic growth, there is the need to constantly sensitize Nigerian workers on the basic tools and techniques that can be used to upscale their performances.
“We invited state governments and local government functionaries, particularly the policymakers in the states, to this summit. We feel that if we can get the buy-in of the policymakers to drive the productivity message in these various states, it will be very easy for productivity awareness to percolate to the grassroots,” Akor stated.
The NPC chief hinted that the two-day summit exposed the participants to the nitty-gritty of productivity as a concept, which reawakened things that were hitherto done but in the wrong way, saying, “the participants were happy to know and learn some of the things they thought they knew before, which they were doing and doing wrongly. We want to believe that when they get to their respective states, they are going to be change agents and Productivity Ambassadors.”
