In a bid to provide sustainable solutions to some of the social, economic and environmental challenges in the country, the Junior Chamber International JCI Rock City has concluded plans to organise a capacity building summit for 2,000 Nigerian youths.

The association expressed optimism that the summit would empower youths to explore innovative ideas and tackle economic challenges.

This, according to the JCI Rock City President, Olalekan Egbetola, at a press conference in Abeokuta, said the summit, tagged ‘Youth Leadership and Development: A panacea to Nation Building’, is in conjunction with the Ogun State Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture and the Ministry of Youths and Sports, scheduled for June 21, 2022, at the cultural centre, Abeokuta.

Egbetola hinted that the beneficiaries would be carefully selected based on their proposals, adding that they would be interviewed on why they need the grant even as the sponsors are ready to empower them.

He said that the summit would target over 2000 youths (unemployed, underemployed and unemployable) in Ogun State, including students from higher institutions of learning around the state.

He said: “Ogun State youths development and empowerment summit is the first edition that we will be launching and also this is actually an avenue for JCI Rock City to come up with a project and a programme that would empower youths.

“Our mission as a JCI is to provide development opportunities that empower young people to create positive change. We are actually partnering with the Ogun State government through the Ogun State Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture and the Ministry of Youths and Sports to organise this particular event.”

On her part, the chairperson of the summit, Damilola Olakanye, hinted that the summit would provide youths with tools to build and engage in impactful projects, adding that the participants would gain expertise on skills that would harness their leadership traits.
