Entertainers seek government’s support to end unemployment

Stakeholders in the entertainment industry have called on the government to invest more in the sector, to tackle youth unemployment the Executive Director, Dephino Entertainment Company, Onoja Adole, disclosed that the industry had empowered photographers, vendors, comedians, presenters and graphics designers.

According to Adole, the entertainment industry has the capacity to generate employment opportunities for over 15,000 youths in each state of the federation within a period of three months, adding that Dephino as a company has already created opportunities for over 2,000 youths within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) alone.

“To eradicate the problem of unemployment, the industry has good potential, and the solution to it is for government to create an enabling environment,” Adole stated.He noted that entertainment industry is not just about partying, but has capacity to create jobs where people get paid for what they do, adding: “One can create entertainment from every aspect of the society like food joint, kids zone, relaxation etc., all depending on the creativity put into it.”

On his part, the Chief Executive Officer, Prixair Group, Demola Banjo, urged government to develop policies that are favourable to entertainment industry, adding that government could also support the industry with grants to enhance rapid development of the sector.Banjo stated: “When all these are put in place, job opportunities, our foreign direct inflow and various sectors will be put in place.”
