FG appoints Okhiria, MD of Nigeria Railway Corporation

Freeborn Edetanlen Okhiria

The Federal Government has appointed Freeborn Edetanlen Okhiria, an engineer, as the substantive Managing Director of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC).

Until his appointment, Engr. Okhiria has acted in the same position with the responsibility of providing leadership and strategic direction for the achievement of the vision of the Nigerian Railway Master Plan.

A graduate of Electrical Engineering from University of Lagos, Akoka, with specialized training in Public Private Partnership (PPP), structuring pm transaction, logistics and transport management, industrial maintenance management, the new NRC helmsman has successfully managed Railway mechanical and electrical workshop activities, including all line maintenance work on diesel engines, rolling stocks, mechanical and electrical equipment and machineries through the various diesel, carriage and wagon depots all over the nation’s railway system, signal and telecommunication scheme, construction, installations and maintenance of all apparatus in the system.

He is a highly qualified professional with significant records of achievement in the field of electrical ND mechanical engineering, signaling, telecommunications, ICT, maintenance and repair of electrical equipment and rail transport since 1988 covering design, development, installation and supervision of multi-million naira projects.

With his extensive experience with the NRC, both as District Manager and Director, he initiated engineering design and actualized the movement by road of locomotives from Apapa Port to Zaria and Enugu due to rehabilitation work on the rail line bridge in the Northwestern District, and recently to Abuja, for operations on the newly constructed standard gauge Kaduna-Abuja line. Also, he is well experienced in finance and human resources management.

Engr. Okhiria is a fellow, Nigerian Institute of Mechanical Engineering (FNIME), Chartered Institute of Transport and Logistics (LCILT), Institute of Strategic Management, Nigeria (FSM), member, Nigerian society of engineers (MNSE).
