FMC workers reject minister’s MD as candidate
Workers of the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Idi-Aba, Abeokuta, have rejected a candidate allegedly imposed by the Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole as its managing director.
They alleged that one Prof. Adewale Abdulsemiu Musa was the minister’s anointed candidate and demanded that an insider, who knows where shoe pinches at the FMC, be appointed for the top position instead of Musa.
The workers, under the aegis of the Joint Action Committee of Unions/Associations also demanded the promotion of their colleagues who are dued for elevation.
The aggrieved workers in a protest, which lasted for one hour, sang solidarity songs and bore placards with various inscriptions to register their grievances.
Some of the inscriptions read: “Listen To Us, Vice President and Appoint an Insider as Substantive MD,” “Musa is Anointed Candidate of the Minister of Health, No! No!! No!!!” and “Give us a Medical Director who has Contributed to the Development of FMC, Abeokuta,” and “No Room for Prof. Musa in FMC Abeokuta,” among others.
In a communiqué addressed to the Minister of Health Office, the protesting workers told Adewole that Musa’s appointment “would be a recipe for anarchy and industrial disharmony in the FMC.”
Dated June 28, 2017, it was jointly signed by Acting Chairman of Medical and Dental Consultants Association of Nigeria (MDCAN), Dr. O.G. Awodein; President, Association of Resident Doctors (ARD), Dr. B.A. Taiwo; Chairman, National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (NANNM), Mrs. A.G. Fatoyinbo and the Chairman, Senior Staff Association of Universities, Teaching Hospitals, Research Institutes and Associated Institutions (SSAUTHRIAI).
