Habeeb Shittu inducted into NIPES

Habeeb Shittu

Habeeb Shittu, EIT, PMP, an electrical engineer currently serving as Electrical Engineer II at the global infrastructure consulting firm Moffatt & Nichol in Georgia, was inducted into the National Institute of Professional Engineers & Scientists (NIPES) on 27th of May 2025, marking a significant milestone in a career shaped by technical expertise, international academic training, and professional advancement in engineering.

The induction recognizes Shittu’s growing contributions to the engineering profession and places him among a network of engineers and scientists dedicated to advancing professional standards, innovation, and technical leadership across disciplines. NIPES is a professional body that promotes professional excellence, research development, and collaboration among engineers and scientists worldwide.
Shittu’s professional journey reflects a trajectory of academic achievement and technical development across two continents.

He earned a Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University in Greensboro, North Carolina, one of the leading historically Black universities in the United States known for its strong engineering and technology programs. His graduate training focused on advanced electrical engineering principles and modern power and infrastructure systems, equipping him with expertise relevant to complex engineering environments.

Prior to pursuing graduate education in the United States, Shittu obtained a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Osun State University in Osogbo, Nigeria. His undergraduate studies provided foundational training in electrical systems, electronics, and engineering design, laying the groundwork for his subsequent specialization and professional growth.

At Moffatt & Nichol, an internationally recognized engineering firm specializing in infrastructure solutions for ports, marine terminals, transportation systems, and energy projects, Shittu works as an Electrical Engineer II. In this role, he contributes to the planning, design, and implementation of electrical systems supporting major infrastructure developments. The firm’s projects frequently involve complex multidisciplinary engineering coordination and large-scale facilities that support transportation networks, coastal infrastructure, and industrial operations.

Electrical engineers working in such environments play a critical role in ensuring the reliability, safety, and efficiency of modern infrastructure. Their work often involves power distribution systems, electrical design integration with mechanical and structural systems, and the development of solutions that meet regulatory, operational, and sustainability standards. Engineers operating in this sector contribute directly to the modernization of transportation and logistics infrastructure that underpins regional and national economic activity.

Shittu holds the Engineer in Training (EIT) certification, which represents a key step toward professional engineering licensure in the United States. The credential demonstrates that an engineer has successfully completed the Fundamentals of Engineering examination and met rigorous academic standards required for entry into the engineering profession.

He also holds the Project Management Professional (PMP) certification, an internationally recognized credential awarded to professionals who demonstrate expertise in managing complex projects, coordinating multidisciplinary teams, and delivering projects within defined timelines and budgets.

The combination of engineering expertise and project management training positions professionals to manage increasingly complex technical projects in sectors such as energy, transportation, and infrastructure development. Engineering organizations and infrastructure firms increasingly rely on professionals who can bridge technical design and project execution to deliver large-scale systems efficiently.

Membership in the National Institute of Professional Engineers & Scientists further connects Shittu to a broader professional network that promotes knowledge exchange, technical advancement, and professional recognition in engineering and scientific fields. Professional organizations such as NIPES play a role in advancing research collaboration, continuing professional development, and the dissemination of emerging engineering practices.

Across the engineering profession, professional recognition and membership in industry organizations are widely viewed as markers of professional standing and engagement with the broader technical community. Such affiliations often provide engineers with opportunities to contribute to conferences, research initiatives, and professional discourse aimed at addressing evolving engineering challenges.

Shittu’s induction reflects the growing presence of internationally trained engineers contributing to the United States’ engineering workforce, particularly in sectors involving infrastructure modernization and complex technical systems. The integration of global academic training and professional experience continues to shape engineering innovation and strengthen the talent pipeline supporting infrastructure development.

With academic foundations spanning Nigeria and the United States, combined with professional experience in a leading infrastructure consulting firm, Shittu represents a generation of engineers whose work intersects global education, technical specialization, and large-scale infrastructure development.
