In commemoration of International Women’s Day, the International Press Institute (IPI) has celebrated some remarkable women media leaders from its global network, among who is Prof. Abigail Ogwezzy-Ndisika of the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Akoka.

Ogwezzy-Ndisika, a distinguished academic in journalism and mass communication, holds the unique distinction of being the first woman and the first alumnus to head the Department of Mass Communication at UNILAG.

Other notable women celebrated by IPI during International Women’s Day include a founding member of the institute, Oveta Culp Hobby, and journalists from Georgia, Italy, Slovenia, and Egypt, Mzia Amaglobeli, Alessia Cerantola, Anuška Delić, and Solafa Magdy, among others.

According to IPI, “We are proud to celebrate the remarkable women media leaders within our global network. From our first female member to the courageous journalists, innovators, and media leaders we honour today, these women have played pivotal roles in shaping journalism and advocating free media worldwide.

“We salute their groundbreaking reporting, unwavering dedication to press freedom, and exceptional leadership in challenging times for independent media. As we celebrate IPI’s 75th anniversary this year, we are proud to count these women — both past and present — as vital members of our global network.”
