Statistician-General of the Federation, Dr. Yemi Kale, is to officially bow out from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) on the 16th of August.

This follows successful completion of his tenure at the Bureau, where he held sway as head since August 2011.

The Guardian can confirm that Kale who pulls out officially on the 16th of August, will hand over administrative leadership of the NBS to longest serving core statistician in the bureau, Director of Macro sector, Betrand Azuwike.

The Bureau has in recent times witnessed successive exit of highly competent personnel, raising concerns of ability by the specialised agency to continue in its primary duties of producing national data for government at various levels, s well as offering professional statistical advice.

The Guardian gathered that some of the likely well contenders to the office of statistician General include: Henry Eteama, one of the long serving directors in the NBS, however now in retirement.

Others are Prof. Peter Osanaiye of the Department of Statistics, University of Ilorin, Mr. C.M. Okafor, and Mr. Boniface Amobi, both retired directors of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and statisticians/economists.
