
The initiative bequeaths new skills and modernises the activities of artisans in the plumbing vocation.
The selected beneficiaries were equipped with plumbing tools and diagnostic kits worth several millions of naira.
Chief Executive of NASENI, Mohammed Haruna, at the training in Ibadan, said the programme was in line with President Muhammadu Buhari’s directive to give Nigerian youths new skills and carry out retraining exercises in line with modern techniques in their different vocations.
According to him, “the time has come to put an end to the habit of giving out technical jobs meant for Nigerians to foreigners or migrants from neighbouring countries; hence, President Buhari’s approval of the ongoing special training for plumbers operating in Ibadan, Oyo State.”
He added that the capacity building focuses on reskilling the plumbers to handle installations and maintenance of plumbing works with modern techniques, tools, diagnostics and equipment.
Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Science Research Institutes, Musiliudeen Akinremi, commended Buhari and NASENI for the intervention to upgrade the skills of plumbers in Ibadan and also giving new tools and technology to work with.
He said empowering the youths in a critical sub-sector like plumbing, was critical to housing and general construction.
He charged the trainees to use the equipment and tools to increase their efficiency in the course of carrying out their tasks.
The presidential mandate to NASENI in the ongoing exercise is to move around the 36 states to empower 100 youths on vocational skills in each location.
