The Nigerian Association of Technologists in Engineering (NATE) has reiterated the need for Technologists to have a say in policy making, nation building and the economy at large, as this is a way to build a technology savvy nation.

NATE at its 5th anniversary and award ceremony noted that its objective is to continually advocate the need for fair playing ground for technologists in engineering and other technical bodies in building the country.

Themed The Responsibilities of Technologists to the Nigerian Economy, the forum x-rayed the importance of technologists as the back bone of every developing country.

The new Lagos state Chairman of NATE, Taibudeen Opadeji, implored the federal government to seek the hands of technologists and technicians in nation building.

Also, the former Chairman of NATE, Lagos State branch, Bartholomew Ukaegbu expressed his worries over the poor state at which technologists in Nigeria are not always considered in every policy made, adding that to build the country, every stakeholder must be duly considered.

“Our theme reflects the need to comprehensively and appropriately sensitize government to come up urgently with a national policy for the growth and development of technicians in the country.

“In several Commonwealth countries, Nigeria inclusive, even though the awareness for creating such environment exists, necessary mechanisms either do not exist or are not sufficiently effective in providing support, encouragement and co-ordinated inputs required for growth and development of small industries. NATE has been making efforts towards bringing researchers, public and manufacturers together for the technological transformation of Nigeria”, he noted.
